This thing worked for about 2 years then all of a sudden just started dropping messages randomly for no reason; lucky I started testing it with my cell phone. I'm not buying any GE answering machines; nor shopping at Fry's (I've got 2 defective products there, this and a Panasonic DVD player, both of which were on sale) I think Fry's puts the crummy products on sale to unload them quickly.

Siemens claims that there are up to 177 hours standby time, but I've just fully charged the phone as instructed and average about 8 hours of standby battery power. I bought this phone because it can accommodate two lines - and it does. That is the end of anything good about it. The sound quality is poor. I hear static & voices sound like they are in a wind tunnel. Everytime there is a call, a red blinking light appears and has to be turned off manually. The directions that come with the phone do not cover some of the basic functions and despite having paid over $80 for this phone, I am looking for one to replace it.

My parents had an old tape based answering machine and it was starting to have problems. I decided to look for a new answering machine for them. I bought one of these for them as a Christmas present. I hooked it up for them as well, and helped set it up. It was very easy to do, and I'm sure my parent's can figure it out if they have to do it again on their own. The voice quality of the recordings (the pre-recorded message and the voicemails you get from callers) are spot on with what it sounds like on the phone itself. This can also get VERY loud so it is easy to hear. I can't think of any real negatives.

This telephone replaces an old AT&T model and was selected because my cordless phones are all Panasonic and have served me well. I found in my research that no one is entirely satisfied with any of the phones currently offered, as evidenced by the reviews all over the map on each of them. So my choice was hit or miss. After one month, I can say that this phone adequately serves my purpose (a corded back-up to my cordless lines since we have occasional power outages and the possibility of an extended outage due to hurricanes). I understand what is meant by the dial being slow. The obvious remedy is to be a little more deliberate and slow as you dial instead of lightning fast and overwhelming the phone (it's a small adjustment anyone can make). Otherwise, I am completely satisfied. I have not used the answering machine yet (my other phone supplies the message center). Panasonic has been most reliable to me in their phones. Amazon is my favorite online shopping source and has never disappointed me. Thank you.

I read the manual carfully.
great phone by all mean except the following points:

1. Caller ID is not working although it is working with other phones.
2. Call waiting is not working although it is working with other phones:
- when I recived another call yes I heared a tone telling me that I have another call waiting but unfortionatly I have to press Off to end the ongoing call to take the new call. if I press talk I hear only a continous tone ( like if I want to dial a new number) and when I press again talk I return back to the first call.

3. no calls can be added to missed or any log.

what is wrong? do I need to do some setup for that.

I'm a senior who's prime with technology has waned. I only use the simplist of mobile phones, no Ipods and the like - too damn complicated for my agreeable retired life. I'm not the generation that needs to be wired to the world - been there done that when I worked! When I first saw this Panasonic I almost panicked - too many complicated features it seemed, but not so bad after a few missteps setting it up and the instruction book does requires some thought. Desired features for me was easy turning off ringer and speaker phone - but are great. I don't use all the features and I don't quite understand some - like when someone calls where in hades does this thing store their number - sometimes its on the caller list and sometimes don't seem to be. Still haven't figured out how to add those calling numbers to my directory. Not so straight forward as my old old AT&T cordless. My feature rating is somewhat arbitrary and only based on a month of use. It seems substantial but not as heavy duty as my old - time will tell. Battery life seems good but mine is mostly kept in the base. Range covers all rooms in my small Honolulu apartment and a fair distance down the hall. Sound quality is quite good after the few annoying seconds of voice feedback in my ear when I first start talking - it quickly goes away but I'd prefer it not happen. Overall I'm quite happy with my selection. I buy a lot from Amazon and base my decisions to buy on the reviews - hopes this helps someone.

I use this phone as a replacement phone for my work when I need clients making daily call-ins. It does have an extremely high memory capacity for messages. However, the only drawback is that it does not tag each individual message with a caller ID like my older GE version.

First off, if you want to hang this phone on the wall, forget about it. The non-backlit display is just NOT readable in that position. On the desk, it's just fine - nice big display and easy to read. Just don't hang it on the wall. Plenty of memories, and self-alphabetizing, too. Hidden trick is that you can force any entry to the top of the list by entering a blank before you enter the name. Being able to enter a name in addition to a number is a good feature. I wonder if the 19 minutes of recoding time is enough, but mine is in a residence and it should be more than adequate. Why don't they just include a slot where you can insert a card? Audio quality is good. Programming isn't too difficult, but don't lose the manual! It just went in yesterday, so I can't address reliability.

So, here's a suggestion to phone makers: Add a slot for, say, an SD card. Create a form to go on the web where you could program all memories speed dial names and numbers, and also override all the presets on the phone. Then write to the card, and stick it in the phone, eliminating a hour or more work -- plus provide a backup in the event of accidental erasure of a number, which is easy to do on this phone.

I don't understand the other reviewer's comment about garbled sound,because messages left on my GE machine are clear as a bell...even better than the previous AT&T machine I had for several jears. This machine comes complete with a built in "secretary," who not only announces your new messages, with the time and day they were received, she helps walk you through the initial set-up procedure. I did not even have to read the instructions except to find out which button to push to start the set-up procedure. Operation of the unit is very easy & intuitive.

I wanted a phone that does not use batteries so I won't need to worry about when to replace them.
This phone comes with an AC adapter so it fills that need.
I wanted a speakerphone with an LCD display for caller ID, Mute button, one-button dialing, and Hold button.
This phone does not have one-button dialing, but it does have two button dialing (Mem button followed by a single digit mem location) which is fine. The only feature missing is Hold. The large number buttons were not on my want list, but I like them. We'll see how well it holds up over time, but my initial reaction is very favorable.

I bought this to replace my vtech phone system and I am very impressed. It has all the basics you would expect, address list, ringer settings, re-dial, speaker phone... You can use it with a headset. The best feature with this system is that when you update one phone with a phone number and it is linked with all the phones so you only input information once. For those worried about the answering machine - don't worry, you can turn it off and use your voice mail. There is even a setting so you can enter your voice mail number.

Couple cons... The ringer has only a few levels and the buttons just under the display are difficult to hit.

I ordered this thinking the picture was wrong.. but it is actually what you will get.

I tried to fix the situation by calling Amazon to point out that the picture is different from the description..

They assured me that the item I would receive would be the answering machine with a phone.

Guess what? I got what was in the picture, which is just an add on unit to a base station I did not have.

This thing is useless unless you own the base station answering machine and telephone unit.. \

Do not try and order this item.. I tried everything in my power to make this order go through correctly and I could not make it right.

Gratefully, Amazon did issue a full credit including shipping, so they are trying..

Just save yourself the trouble and do not bother doing what I did...
